Everything Hopnotch sends over the network
Two things, both of which you can point at and inspect:
| Request | When | What goes with it |
|---|---|---|
| Update check | Once a day, if you've enabled automatic checks | A plain fetch of appcast.xml from this site. No identifiers are attached. |
| License check | On activation, then at most weekly | Your license key and an anonymous per-Mac install ID, to Lemon Squeezy. |
That is the complete list. There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, no "anonymous usage statistics", and nothing that phones home on launch.
During the three day trial the license check never runs, because there is no license to check yet: nothing about you or your Mac is sent anywhere before you buy. The update check is the only request Hopnotch makes in that time, and it is a plain fetch of a file from this site with no identifiers attached. You can switch it off in Settings.
Space previews
Live previews are the one feature that looks at your screen, so they get their own rules:
- Off by default. Nothing is captured until you turn them on.
- Memory only. Captures are never written to disk, not to a cache and not to a temp file.
- Short-lived. They expire after ten minutes and are evicted.
- Purged on lock. Locking the screen wipes every capture immediately.
- Never sent anywhere. No preview leaves your Mac, ever.
This is the feature that asks for Screen Recording permission. Leave it off and macOS never prompts.
What's stored on your Mac
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Settings, themes, hotkeys | The app's preferences, under your user account |
| License key and install ID | Your login Keychain |
| Trial start date | Keychain, mirrored in preferences |
| Diagnostic log | ~/Library/Logs/Hopnotch.log, local and never uploaded |
Space names appear in the log so switching problems can be diagnosed. The log stays on your Mac unless you choose to send it to us; nothing reads it automatically.
Payments
Lemon Squeezy is the merchant of record. They take the payment, hold the card details, issue the license key, and handle tax. We see your email address and what you bought, and use them only to support you and to email you about the app you paid for. Their own privacy policy covers the checkout itself.
This website
Static pages on Cloudflare Pages. No cookies are set, no analytics script runs, no third-party fonts or trackers are loaded. Cloudflare keeps standard server logs; we don't build anything on top of them.
Getting your data removed
Email [email protected] and I will delete what I hold, which is an email address and an order record. Deleting your license naturally means it stops working, so we'll confirm before doing it.
